From Sunday 27 September, ‘Van droom tot tuin’ will once again be broadcast on Eclips TV and PlattelandsTV. For the sixth season, presenter Gil Claes and garden expert Marc Verachtert travel through the five Flemish provinces. They visit more than twenty different garden projects and witness how professional landscape contractors turn dreams into high-quality outdoor spaces.

For each project, the programme visits three times: before work starts, during the works and upon completion of the new garden. This gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look and shows them how a garden takes shape, step by step. In addition, each episode returns to an earlier project by the same landscape contractor. By then, the garden has had time to mature and is fully in use.

No garden is the same

From a spacious landscaped garden to an urban balcony measuring barely eight square metres: the new series shows just how much gardens and their owners’ wishes can differ. Some owners dream of a natural garden with more space for biodiversity, while others mainly want to create a holiday atmosphere or make their outdoor space blend more naturally with the surrounding landscape.

Even small or unexpected spaces get a green transformation. The programme features, among other things, a compact courtyard and an enclosed rooftop garden. Other projects involve the thorough renovation of an existing garden, for example to reduce maintenance or remove steps and other obstacles. This season, the landscape contractors also work on sites with a remarkable past. A former industrial site is transformed into a neighbourhood park, while a former pig farm is converted into a food forest.

More attention to nature and climate

Nature, ecology and biodiversity play a prominent role in the sixth season. Garden owners want to make more room for greenery and nature without compromising on garden quality, comfort or enjoyment. New trends can also be seen in the use of materials. Rubble stone and flagstones with permeable joints are becoming increasingly more popular. Wadis and outdoor borders help collect rainwater and make gardens more resilient to drought and other weather conditions.

In addition to the projects created by the landscape contractors, various specialists are featured. They provide more information on subjects including plants, plant nutrition, Corten steel, worms and garden therapy. With a wide variety of projects, practical insights and inspiring before-and-after images, the sixth season of ‘Van droom tot tuin’ once again offers a broad perspective on contemporary garden landscaping.
