German garden shows inform and inspire

The Federal Garden Shows (BUGA) and the smaller State Garden Shows (LAGA) are a German speciality. They open their doors to visitors not just for a few days or weeks, but from spring to autumn. These garden shows can contribute to urban development by preserving some of the show gardens and projects on a permanent basis. They also present the diversity of the green sector and its ideas, products and services to the public.
The garden shows also serve the purpose of environmental education and impart knowledge about ornamental and useful plants, gardens and interrelationships in nature. The show grounds can be very extensive and become the basis for interesting urban developments or new, modern parks. The Park of Gardens in Bad Zwischenahn, for example, emerged from a state garden show and has been developed into a tourist destination for garden lovers.
An IGA - an international garden exhibition - is planned for Germany in 2027: The IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027 will take place at several locations in the Ruhr region. It will showcase gardens and green projects, present innovative solutions for future issues and showcase ideas for a climate-friendly future. In order to further develop the regional green spaces, gardens, parks and green corridors are also to be restored or upgraded as part of the IGA.
