Adrian Stravers' Prunus laurocerasus Bonaparte® ('Flippi01'PBR), produced by co-owner Stef Verwaaij of SV Tuinplanten, was awarded KVBC Award Gold on 16 May.

According to the judges, Bonaparte® has a "very beautiful and above all practical upright growth habit. The young shoot is very nice brown-orange in colour and the mature foliage is glossy fresh green." In addition, the jury indicated that Bonaparte® contributes to the promotion of biodiversity. The jury was impressed by its improved disease resistance, and its trouble-free propagation and cultivation in pots and outdoors. The jury found "Prunus laurocerrasus Bonaparte® ('Flippi01') an improvement over the existing assortment on almost all criteria."

Prunus Bonaparte® has striking orange-red young shoots that colour beautifully with the green foliage. This leafy shrub is also notable for its densely branched, slender growth habit. Pinkish-white flowers appear in spring. Bonaparte® is ideal for hedges and as a solitary. Hardy to -22º Celsius. Plant in well-drained soil, in sun or semi-shade. Good pruning and easy maintenance.
