In the spotlight: Plantsoen at GGP 2025

Plantsoen from Hamont-Achel, Belgian Limburg, is one of the youngest participants at Groot Groen Plus 2025. Since its establishment in 2021, the company grew in a short time into a serious player in perennials and ornamental grasses. With a strong focus on its own cutting production and genetic quality, Plantsoen supplies wholesalers, fellow growers and larger garden centres.
Young nursery with a clear course
‘Together one-stop shopping in the region.’ - Wim Freier, co-owner Plantsoen.
On 3 hectares of container fields and 1 hectare of greenhouse cultivation, Plantsoen grows an assortment of about 300 species, almost all grown in P9 pots. Some 50 to 60 per cent of sales come from its own cuttings production of marsh plants. Co-owner Wim Freier emphasises the importance of species authenticity, genetic strength and value for money. ‘Because we grow a lot ourselves, we are less dependent on external suppliers. That makes us flexible as well as reliable.’
Debut at Groot Groen Plus
Although it is the first trade fair participation for Plantsoen, the company is no stranger to GGP: for the past five years, they have invariably attended as visitors. Now, in 2025, they will be there themselves, as part of a joint stand of five growers from Belgian North Limburg. ‘We are participating for regional promotion,’ says Freier. ‘Our region has a strong offering and together we want to project that you can shop one-stop with us.’ The stand will focus on their perennials, including large numbers of Epimedium (pixie flower).
Innovation and future vision
Developing a separate cutting location has been an important step for Plantsoen. It enables them to provide year-round reliable cuttings of consistent quality. According to Freier, perennials are becoming increasingly important for wholesalers and landscapers. Plantsoen responds to this with strong, genetically stable production in-house.
