Weber Stekcultures: tradition, innovation and craftsmanship in one line

At Weber Stekcultures in Boskoop, tradition and innovation go hand in hand. The family business, led by Marleen Weber-Aasman and her husband Thomas Aasman, has been producing high-quality cuttings for growers across Europe for many years. ‘We work closely with our customers and deliver exactly what they need,’ says Marleen. ‘Our strength lies in tailor-made production, reliability and a broad range of varieties.’
Weber Stekcultures produces Prunus, conifers, hydrangeas, roses and holly, among others. Most cuttings are grown to order, ensuring customers receive the exact quantities and specifications they require, right on time. ‘Our customers are very diverse,’ Marleen explains. ‘From tree nurseries to perennial growers and exporters – that variety is what makes our work so inspiring.’
Recently, the company introduced a **cutting insertion robot**, marking a new step in mechanisation. The robot increases efficiency and ensures consistent quality and uniformity. ‘We still believe in craftsmanship and the human touch,’ says Marleen, ‘but automation helps us reduce repetitive labour and ease the workload. It allows our team to focus more on quality control and plant health.’
This innovation fits perfectly with Weber’s long-term vision: to think ahead while maintaining quality and personal commitment. ‘We want to stay future-proof without losing who we are,’ Marleen emphasises. ‘The robot doesn’t replace people – it supports them. Step by step, we’re building a more efficient and sustainable production process.’
GrootGroenPlus has been an important platform for Weber for over two decades. ‘It’s where we meet many of our clients, strengthen relationships and showcase what’s new,’ Marleen explains. ‘The sector is evolving fast, but passion for plants and quality remains the same. That’s what connects us, and that’s what we love to share at GrootGroenPlus.’
With the new robot, a strong family foundation and an international customer base, Weber Stekcultures looks to the future with confidence. ‘We’ll keep investing in innovation, people and collaboration,’ Marleen concludes. ‘Because it’s that combination that allows us to keep growing – in every sense of the word.’
