At Hendrikx Groenvormen in Diessen, everything revolves around quality, natural growth, and craftsmanship. Owner Sander Hendrikx has built his nursery step by step over the past eighteen years and has a clear vision of sustainable cultivation: “The plant always comes first – that’s how you make your living, and it’s your trademark.”

The company specializes in exclusive hedge plants and shaped trees, grown on sandy soils with great attention to structure, nutrition, and resilience. Where once artificial fertilizers and chemical controls were used, Hendrikx has consciously switched to a natural growing approach for more than ten years. “We feed the soil instead of the plant,” he explains. “By applying leaf mulch and compost every year and mulching the grass between the rows, we create a living soil that keeps the plants strong and healthy.”

This approach takes more time and care, but the results are visible. The plants grow vigorously, stay green longer, and are less prone to disease. Thanks to a smart cultivation setup – with wider plant spacing, drip irrigation, and a carefully planned crop rotation – Hendrikx manages to maintain consistently high quality. Each field rests for a year after four years of cultivation, allowing the soil to recover.

With 25 hectares under cultivation and a close-knit, experienced team, Hendrikx Groenvormen delivers plants that draw their strength from a healthy foundation. “I’ve seen every plant that leaves here,” says Sander. “That’s the only way to be sure it’s right.”

One of the varieties he is particularly proud of is the Prunus lucitanica – in his view, an underrated but beautiful hedge plant that deserves more recognition. “We aim to grow exclusively, but always with quality as our top priority – and that’s where we continue to invest.”
