Successful spring edition of Florall with international interest and awards for innovations

On 3 March, the spring edition of Florall took place at Waregem Expo. During this trade fair, sixty producers and ten supply and export companies presented their assortment for the upcoming season. Visitors could enjoy a wide range of houseplants, garden plants, terrace plants, and fruit trees. Despite the nice weather – which usually sparks busyness in the garden centres – the fair attracted considerable interest from both national and international visitors.
Florall Awards March 2026 NL
Florall is an important event for growers to showcase their newest products and concepts. This year as well, several Florall awards were presented for notable innovations and new varieties.
Best stand
A new element during this edition was the award for best stand. This award was presented as part of the project ‘Als ik jou was’ (If I were you), which encourages ornamental growers to communicate more effectively with their customers and to present their products in an attractive way.
The jury awarded first prize to Decadt-Verhelst from Staden. Their stand stood out because of its clear product segmentation and an interactive presentation with a rotating display. According to the jury, it was a stand that literally made visitors stop and look.
Second place went to Agapanthus bv and third place to Maes-Reyns bv kwekerij.
Awards for new varieties
The category of new varieties also produced interesting innovations. The jury assessed, among other things, climate resilience, distinctiveness, visual attractiveness and the added value within the existing assortment.
The gold award went to Phillyrea angustifolia ‘Grand Prix’, submitted by Boomkwekerij Huijbregts via the trade fair GrootGroenPlus, a collaboration partner of Florall. This Mediterranean species has a compact, upright growth habit and glossy dark green leaves. Thanks to its strong branching and high drought tolerance, this ‘mock privet’ is increasingly used as an evergreen hedge in gardens.
Silver was awarded to Agapanthus africanus ‘Lady Lauren’, a striking white-flowering variety with a rich and long-lasting bloom. Bronze went to Syringa ‘Smnsdtp’ (Proven Winners® Baby Kim (PBR)), a compact lilac with good branching and improved resistance to powdery mildew.
Innovative concepts and public favourite
In addition to new plant varieties, innovative concepts were also assessed. In this category, gold went to Treewrap, a label based on a plastic band with a locking mechanism and suitable for various trunk diameters. The label partly consists of recycled material and is fully recyclable.
The public prize was awarded to Viburnum plicatum ‘PIIVIB II’ (First Editions® Opening Day (PBR)), an ornamental shrub with compact growth, a striking spring bloom and decorative foliage that turns warm red and purple tones in autumn.
Next edition
The next edition of Florall is scheduled for 25 August 2026. During this autumn fair, Flemish growers will present their autumn assortment.
